Priority Registration

Gateway’s Priority Registration period occurs a few weeks before Open Registration begins, and allows students who are accepted into a postsecondary program to register before classes become available to everyone. Continuing program students are given a priority registration date based on the number of credits completed and can register on or after that date. We encourage you to register as soon as you can in order to gain access to the best selection of classes.

Newly admitted program students may register during New Program Student registration. Students taking postsecondary courses, but who are  not accepted into a postsecondary program may register during the Open Registration period.

Service Member Priority Registration

Wisconsin Assembly Bill 201 gives priority registration to eligible service members attending a Wisconsin Technical College. Eligible service members include those who have served or who are serving on active duty under honorable conditions.

In accordance with the law, Gateway allows eligible service members to register one day prior to their standard designated registration date (this provision does not apply to service members’ dependents.) Priority Registration does not waive any course or program requirements, such as prerequisites and program restrictions. Courses are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Disability Support Services Priority Registration

Priority registration provides the opportunity to prepare a schedule (to the greatest extent possible) of courses based on certain disability-related needs. Priority registration does not waive any course or program requirements, such as pre-requisites and program restrictions. Courses are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students must demonstrate that they would be denied equal access to the curriculum due to their documented disability without priority registration. Only a small percentage of students with disabilities qualify for priority registration. Priority registration does not guarantee the provision of classes at specific times or availability of course sections.

Students should contact Disability Support Services with any questions regarding priority registration.
