Gateway holds one optional commencement ceremony each year in May. Graduates of technical diploma and associate of applied science degree programs are invited to participate.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and restrictions on gatherings of more than 10 people, the 2020 commencement ceremony will be held in a virtual format. We are also planning a celebration for the Class of 2020 which we will host when it is once again safe to gather. Please check back as this page will be updated as additional details are announced.

To be eligible to participate in the virtual ceremony, you must have graduated in Fall 2019, be graduating in Spring 2020 or be registered for all final program coursework for the Summer 2020 semester by March 31.The Registrar’s Office will reach out to students who fail to meet graduation requirements.

What is a virtual commencement ceremony?
A virtual commencement ceremony is an online celebration of our graduates. The virtual ceremony will include a special video of our commencement speakers, and each graduate will be recognized individually. Graduates will have the opportunity to share a photo, quote and other details to be included in the ceremony.

When will the virtual ceremony be available to watch?
Graduates will receive a link to the virtual ceremony via email. The ceremony will go live at 5:00 p.m. Central Time on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.It will be available to view for approximately one month. You can view the virtual ceremony here through June 19, 2020.

How many people can I share the virtual ceremony with?
You can share the virtual ceremony with as many people as you want! You will receive a link to the ceremony that you can share with your friends and family so they can celebrate your accomplishments with you.

Will graduates who don’t participate in the ceremony still receive their diploma?
Yes, they will. All diplomas are mailed to graduates 6-8 weeks after the end of the term.

When will the in-person celebration for the Class of 2020 be held?
As of April 20, 2020, the date for the celebration for the Class of 2020 is to be determined. Once restrictions on large gatherings have been lifted, we will announce details regarding the celebration for the Class of 2020.

Are formal graduation announcements still available?
Yes, formal announcements are still available and can be ordered via jostens.com.

Will I still get keepsake items like a ceremony program or diploma cover?
Yes. Gateway will be mailing all graduates a ceremony program and diploma cover in June. Please watch your mailbox for this special delivery.

Can I order a cap and gown?
Yes. Students who would like to order a cap, gown, and/or tassel for keepsake purposes can do so by following these steps:

  • Visit jostens.com. When searching for your school, select Gateway Technical College Kenosha, Wisconsin as your campus. Orders cannot be placed by selecting the Elkhorn or Racine campuses - you must select the Kenosha Campus.
  • The deadline to place your order is June 3, 2020. Orders will be shipped by June 25, 2020.

Pricing is as follows:

  • Cap, Gown, and Tassel = $27 + tax & shipping
  • Gown = $18 + tax & shipping
  • Cap = $5 + tax & shipping
  • Tassel = $4 + tax & shipping

All pre-existing orders for bookstore pickup which were placed before May 19, 2020 have been cancelled. If you had placed one of these orders and would still like to receive a keepsake, you will need to place a new order.

Students that are eligible for district or president’s honors upon graduation will have their honor cords shipped to their address on file free of charge.

If I already ordered a cap and gown and no longer want them, can I cancel my order?
All pre-existing orders for bookstore pickup which were placed before May 19, 2020 have been cancelled. If you had ordered a cap and gown and no longer want them, there is no further action you need to take.
