Do you need to finish your high school education, learn or improve your English skills or take a refresher class? Gateway’s expert instructors will work with you to achieve your goals with Adult Basic Education, Adult High School and English Language Learners (ELL), all free for Wisconsin residents. Visit or contact any Learning Support Center today to register for an orientation and take an assessment test.

Adult Basic Education

Gateway’s Adult Basic Education program (ABE) serves more than 2,000 students per year, ranging in age from 17 to 75. Students brush up on math, reading, writing and computer skills so they can move ahead by pursuing a GED or HSED or college education.

Adult High School

Do you still dream of walking across the stage for high school graduation? Qualifying adults over 18 can earn their high school diploma by completing 17 credits, passing a civics exam and passing one graded class at Gateway. Graduation ceremonies take place in May each year.

Sign up for a free, self-paced online orientation to learn more about GED and HSED testing. Get free support to prepare for your GED tests and develop your own Personal Education Plan with one of our instructors in the Learning Success Center.

English Language Learning (ELL)

Gateway’s ELL program focuses on reading, vocabulary, writing, grammar, listening and speaking. Classes meet two days a week for six hours per week. Fall semester is September to December; spring semester is January to May; and summer term is May to July.
