Learn to read, write and speak English with Gateway’s ELL program. Our free ELL classes meet two days a week for six hours per week. You’ll start with an orientation that helps instructors find the best starting place for you.

No matter what languages you already know, our English as a Second Language instructors can help you master English with face-to-face activities in the classroom and with technology. After you’re finished with English classes, take your next step with one of Gateway’s 75+ career-focused programs.

Register for the orientation class at a Student Services Center on the Elkhorn, Kenosha or Racine campus. 

• Registration for Fall Semester starts in August.
• Registration for Spring Semester starts in December.
• Registration for Summer Semester in April. 

After you register, you’ll attend an orientation where you’ll set goals; measure your writing, reading and listening skills; schedule classes and get your first assignment. 

This program is free to Wisconsin residents ages 18 and older.
