Surgical Technology is a high-demand program at Gateway Technical College. Please be aware that in-district students have first priority and that there is a petitioning process to obtain a seat for program classes and clinical placements. See your program advisor for further details.
Become part of the lifesaving team with a Surgical Technology associate degree from Gateway Technical College. Program graduates join surgical teams in hospitals, surgical centers and clinics. Under the direction of nurses and surgeons, surgical technologists assist in surgical operations by preparing the operating room before surgery; observing the patient’s vital signs and assisting the surgical team with putting on gowns and gloves.
Gateway students benefit from theory, principles and procedures during lectures and hands-on application during their lab and clinical instruction, which prepares the student for entry-level employment upon graduation.
Program curriculum is directly tied to the Association of Surgical Technology’s core curriculum requirements based on industry standards and professional expectations. The program is accredited with Commissions on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Only students that graduate from an accredited program are allowed to take the national certification exam.
