Jean Moran keynotes Gateway graduation ceremony

Jean Moran, CEO of LMI Packaging Solutions Inc., will deliver the keynote address at Gateway Technical College’s Associate Degree and Technical Diploma Class of 2013 Commencement 7 p.m. May 14 at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Sports and Activity Center, 900 Wood Road, Kenosha.

The ceremony will recognize 770 prospective candidates for graduation from the Spring 2013 and Summer 2013 semesters. An estimated 340 are expected to participate in the ceremony. The numbers this year are somewhat lower than recent years because Gateway held its inaugural December graduation ceremony in 2012, which recognized 425 students graduating in the Fall 2012 semester and 102 in the Summer 2012 semester. In previous years, the May graduation recognized students from all three semesters.

Since 1985, Moran has overseen all phases of LMI Packaging Solutions, Inc. operations, providing flexible packaging solutions to the food and consumer goods industries. LMI is formally known as Label Makers, Inc.

She began her career with LMI Packaging in 1976, first as a sales representative, then in the accounting department as controller. In 1986, she was named general manager of the company and held that position until becoming CEO the following year.

During her tenure as CEO, Moran has introduced a number of programs designed to grow the company and empower her employees, including continuing education and tuition reimbursement programs, advanced communication and problem solving skills and Lean Manufacturing techniques. She also spearheaded the company’s move from Chicago to its present corporate headquarters, a 79,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Pleasant Prairie.

Moran earned her bachelor's degree from George Williams College. She received her CPA certification in 1985.

Other commencement highlights include the presentation of the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award by the Gateway Technical College Alumni Association, which will be awarded to Nate Skewes.

Skewes earned an associate degree from Gateway Technical College’s Fire Science program in 2006. He is a firefighter/EMT for the Waukegan Fire Department.

Bryan Albrecht, Gateway president, will deliver the welcome address.

The commencement program will be available for download from Gateway’s Web site in early June. Please check the college’s Web site at www.gtc.edu/graduation for updated information.
