Gateway offers a Service Scholars acknowledgement at commencement. Service Scholars are students who have actively participated in over 50 hours of service within the Gateway community at home or on an international service trip with Gateway. The program counts hours completed
- in your courses
- with student clubs
- or independently
The hours must serve a local nonprofit or government agency like a school. Log your hours in the volunteer portal so that Gateway has a record of your impact. This video explains how to log your hours.
Since we launched this acknowledgement in the 2015-2016 Commencement, 60 graduates have completed over 4,350 hours of service to their communities. Service Scholars receive a certificate and a pin to wear at commencement. They will also be identified in the graduation program. Any student who qualifies but does not attend commencement will receive their certificate and pin in the mail after commencement.
