All priority placement correspondence will be sent to your Gateway student email.
Priority placement is used for programs with limited seats in core courses. The priority placement process is used to place students into core coursework once academic preparedness requirements have been met. Academic preparedness requirements are specified by each program to be eligible to begin core coursework. Once all academic preparedness requirements are met, seats are awarded based on program application completion date and residency status at the time of placement. Gateway’s district is made up of Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties.

Gateway Technical College follows the residency priority dates outlined in the TCS 10.07 Wisconsin State Statute. Students who live in the Gateway Technical College district (Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties) and apply by the dates below get priority over other Wisconsin residents. After these priority dates, students from other parts of Wisconsin have equal priority with district residents. Students from outside Wisconsin will be seated on a space available basis after all Wisconsin residents.

  • For fall programs, apply by January 1.
  • For spring programs, apply by May 1.
  • For summer programs, apply by October 1.

To review your program’s academic preparedness requirements and your progress in meeting these requirements, log in to My Gateway and select the Priority Placement Card. Then select the program for which you want to review your academic preparedness requirements, and select the semester you would begin your core program courses.

Priority Placement Process

When will i know if I have been selected?

Students will be notified of their status via their Gateway student email within 7 business days of the priority placement process. Dates vary based on program and semester. Please see the priority placement dates and eligibility page for program and semester specific information.

What will i need to do if I am awarded a seat?

Once core-active status is awarded, information regarding the next steps and registering for your courses will be sent to your Gateway student email.

Health and Veterinary Science Programs

Once core-active status is awarded you will be invited to a mandatory program orientation meeting. At this meeting, you will learn about the requirements and rigors of your core program courses. You will learn about registering for the core courses and other expectations of the program. You are required to attend this meeting. If you do not attend the orientation, your status will be forfeited and you will be considered for a future semester.

What happens if I don’t receive a core-active status?

Students who did not meet the academic preparedness requirements or who do not receive a core-active status will be notified via their Gateway student email.

If you did not meet all of the academic preparedness requirements, continue to work on completing them. If you have met all of your academic preparedness requirements, please review when the next placement period for your program is. Core-active status is awarded based on program application completion date, so your chances for selection improve with each cycle.
