What do I need to be eligible for priority placement?

  • Academic preparedness requirements are outlined below. To review your progress in meeting these requirements, login to My Gateway | Priority Placement. Select the program of study for which you want to review your academic preparedness requirements, and select the semester you would begin your core program courses.
  • Once you have met all academic preparedness requirements you will have all green √s,.
  • Students will be awarded a seat in clinical/practicum courses based on completion of academic preparedness requirements, program application completion date and residency status at the time of placement. Gateway’s district is made up of Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties. (Residency status will not be taken into consideration for the Dental Hygiene and Funeral Service programs' selection.)
  • Gateway Technical College follows the residency priority dates outlined in the TCS 10.07 Wisconsin State Statute.  Students who live in the Gateway Technical College district (Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties) and apply by the dates below get priority over other Wisconsin residents. After these priority dates, students from other parts of Wisconsin have equal priority with district residents. Students from outside Wisconsin will be seated on a space available basis after all Wisconsin residents.
    • For fall programs, apply by January 1.
    • For spring programs, apply by May 1.
    • For summer programs, apply by October 1.

Aeronautics

Priority Placement Process Dates:

  • Complete the academic preparedness requirements by the first Friday in March for the upcoming Summer Semester -AND-
  • Complete the academic preparedness requirements by the third Friday in June for the upcoming Fall Semester -AND-
  • Complete the academic preparedness requirements by the fourth Friday in October for the upcoming Spring Semester
  • Students will receive notification of their selection status via their student email the following week.

Academic Preparedness Requirements:

  • Program Acceptance
  • Program GPA of 2.0 + or better
  • Verification of Citizenship: (Submit one of the following to any Student
    Services Center)
    • Certified copy of birth certificate or certificate of naturalization AND
      driver’s license
      -or-
    • Valid U.S. Passport
      Note: Non-US citizens must register as an Alien Flight Student Candidate with the Transportation Security Administration's Alien Flight Student Program. You must have TSA/AFSP approval in order to start flight training. This is a multi-step process that may take a month or more. For questions regarding the TSA/AFSP process, contact Greg Patchel, at patchelg@gtc.edu.
  • Complete and Submit Aeronautics Declaration/Intent form.
  • Successfully complete with an S (Satisfactory) the following within one year prior to each semester of flight courses:
    • Aeronautics Program Overview (402-439) 
      **Sign up at student services or online through MyGateway.
  • Submit a copy of 1st or 2nd Class FAA Medical Certificate issued by an FAA-approved Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) to any Student Services Center. More information on how to get a Student Pilot Certificate.
  • Complete and submit Aeronautics Student Pilot Certificate in IACRA (Submit the signed card you will receive to any Student Services Center.)
    • Application can be found on the IACRA website
    • Fill out information online. See instruction sheet.
    • Contact a Flight Instructor, Designated Pilot Examiner or FAA Inspector to schedule time to complete application.
    • Submit a signed copy of your Temporary Airman Certificate to any Student Services Center.
      **This process will take a minimum of four weeks for the TSA to complete required background checks and may take longer to receive your FAA issued certificate. Be sure to plan ahead and start this step early.
  • Complete and submit Aeronautics Student Availability form for each semester of flight courses.

Dental Assistant

  • TEAS Entrance Exam score of 70% or higher taken 10/1/2023 or after -OR-
  • HESI A2-1 composite score of 80% or higher taken prior to 10/1/2023
  • Complete the Dental Hygiene Consent for Release of Student Information form prior to priority placement selection

After becoming Core-Active and being awarded a seat, students will need to:

  • Order Medical Document Manager ONLY (health forms/records and CPR).
  • Order Drug Test. During the order process, you will need to select your program location, i.e. Nursing - ADN/PN - Racine/Kenosha OR Nursing - ADN/PN - Burlington. Please read the “Additional Information” section found on the review page which is the beginning part of the order process. This will provide you with the necessary information to complete your drug test.
  • Ensure Criminal Background Check and Background Information Disclosure (BID) form is Valid. Documents expire after 2 years.

LPN Bridge to Nursing/ADN

Priority Placement Process Dates:

  • Complete the academic preparedness requirements by the second Friday in September for the upcoming Spring semester -OR-
  • Complete the academic preparedness requirements by the third Friday in May for the upcoming Fall semester
  • Students will receive notification of their selection status via their student email the following week.

Academic Preparedness Requirements:

  • Program Acceptance
  • Program GPA of 2.0 or better, if applicable.
  • Successfully completed with a D- (0.67) or better all of the following:
    • English Comp I (801-136)
    • Speech (801-198) or Oral/Interpersonal Comm (801-196) if accepted to the 2013/14 academic year or before.
    • Development Psychology (809-188)
  • Successfully completed with a B- (2.67) or better all of the following:
    • Advanced Anatomy & Physiology (806-179)
  • LPN to ADN Entrance HESI exam with a cutoff score of 850 within 2 years of priority placement.
  • 510-403 Transition: LPN to ADN | 1 Credit | Prereq of HESI Mobility
    • NOTE: Only two attempts are allowed

After becoming Core-Active and being awarded a seat, students will need to:

  • Order Medical Document Manager ONLY (health forms/records and CPR).

After becoming Core-Active and being awarded a seat, students will need to:

  • Order Medical Document Manager ONLY. Upon completing your order, the required health forms will be on your To-Do List. You will be required to submit verification of completing the Pre-exposure Rabies Vaccine series to participate in clinicals. The expense of the Pre-exposure Rabies Vaccine series is the responsibility of the student. Cost of the vaccine series can vary based on insurance coverage and provider but has typically been a minimum of $1100.  Please download, print and upload the completed forms to your myCB
  • Order Drug Test. Please read the “Additional Information” section found on the review page which is the beginning part of the order process. This will provide you with the necessary information to complete your drug test.
