Petitioning Eligibility

All petitioning correspondence will be sent to your Gateway student email.

What Do I Need to be Eligible to Petition?

  • Program petition requirements are outlined below. To review your progress in meeting these requirements, login to My Gateway | Program Petition under WebAdvisor & Self-service | Student Program Petition | Select the program in which you want to submit a petition, click Submit.
     
  • Once you have met all program petition requirements (you have all green √s), you are able to submit your petition by checking the acknowledgement box at the bottom of the screen and clicking Submit.
     
  • Students will be awarded a seat in clinical/practicum courses based on completion of program petition eligibility requirements, acceptance date, and residency status.
    • The Admissions Office will let students that have been awarded a seat know if they need to update their CPR or Medic First Aid certifications, background information disclosure forms and/or background checks; all items are valid for two years.

July for program/courses starting the following Fall semester (July 8-19, 2019)

  • Aeronautics

November for program/courses starting the following Spring semester (November 4-15, 2019)

PROGRAM PETITION WINDOW REQUIREMENTS

Aeronautics

March 11-22, 2019 for the upcoming Summer semester

-OR-

July 8-19, 2019 for the upcoming Fall semester

-OR-

November 4-15, 2019 for the upcoming Spring semester

Program Acceptance

Verification of Citizenship
Submit one of the following:

  • United States Passport
  • Official Birth Certificate and Driver’s License
  • Certificate of Naturalization and Driver’s License

Complete and Submit Aeronautics Declaration/Intent form.

Complete Aeronautics Overview Session within the previous calendar year

Submit a copy of 1st or 2nd Class FAA Medical Certificate issued by an FAA-approved Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). More information on how to get a Student Pilot Certificate.

Complete and submit Aeronautics Student Pilot Certificate in IACRA (Submit the signed card you will receive)

  • Application can be found on the IACRA website
  • Fill out information online. See instruction sheet.
  • Contact a Flight Instructor, Designated Pilot Examiner or FAA Inspector to schedule time to complete application.
  • Submit a signed copy of your Temporary Airman Certificate.

**This process will take a minimum of four weeks for the TSA to complete required background checks and may take longer to receive your FAA issued certificate. Be sure to plan ahead and start this step early.

Dental Assistant

February 11-22, 2019 for the upcoming Fall semester

Program Acceptance

Program GPA of 2.0 or better, if applicable.

Demonstrate college-level knowledge in writing:

  • Writing COMPASS 26+, Accuplacer Next Gen 237+, Asset 36+, ACT English 16+ OR successful completion of one of the following:
    • Foundations of Writing (851-756) with a C (2.0) or better
    • Oral/Interpersonal Communication (801-196) with a C (2.0) or better
    • Writing Principles (801-301) with D (1.0) or better 
  • Dental Health Safety (508-101) with a grade of C (2.0) or better
    -OR-
  • Enrolled in at the time of petition; scheduled to be completed prior to the start of the petition entry semester.

Valid Health Care Provider CPR (view acceptable CPR cards for health programs).

Valid Criminal Background Check (CBC): Order Background Check ONLY

Valid Background Information Disclosure (BID): Upon completing your order, the BID will be on your To-Do List. Download, print, and then upload the completed BID to your myCB.

Nursing/ADN

February 11-22, 2019 for the upcoming Fall semester

Program Acceptance

Program GPA of 2.0 or better if applicable.

Demonstrate college-level knowledge in reading and writing:

  • Reading COMPASS 71+, Accuplacer Next Gen 250+, Asset 45+, ACT Reading 17+ OR successfu l completion with a C (2.0) or better in the following:
    • Intro to Reading & Study Skills (838-105)
  • Writing COMPASS 73+, Accuplacer Next Gen 250+, Asset 43+, ACT English 18+ OR successful completion
    with a C (2.0) or better in the following:
    • Intro to College Writing (831-103)

Successfully completed with a C (2.0) or better (no
expiration on course):

  • Nursing Assistant (543-300)

If Nursing Assistant was not completed at Gateway, please submit one of the following to any Student Services Center:

  • official transcript
  • certificate of completion
  • proof of NA registry

Successfully completed:

  • General Anatomy & Physiology (806-177) with a B- (2.67) or better 
    -OR- 
  • Anatomy & Physiology I AND Anatomy & Physiology II (806-195 & 806-196) with a B- (2.67) or better in both 

Earned a composite score of 58.7% on the TEAS test at time
of petition.

Successfully completed with a D- (0.67) or better all of the following:

  • English Comp I (801-136)
  • Speech (801-198) or Oral/Interpersonal Comm (801-196) if accepted to the 2013/14 academic year or before.
  • Development Psychology (809-188)

Successfully completed with a C (2.00) or better all of the following:

  • General Anatomy & Physiology (806-177) and Advanced Anatomy & Physiology (806-179) 
    -OR- 
  • Anatomy & Physiology I AND Anatomy & Physiology II (806-195 & 806-196) 

HESI exam with a cutoff score of 850.
