Gateway’s Culinary Assistant technical diploma is a two-semester program that gives students the hands-on skills and technical knowledge they need to start a career in the culinary industry. Students will learn knife skills, baking, butchery, and short order deli skills. In addition to learning kitchen skills and menu planning, students will have the opportunity to train in commercial, industry-standard kitchens and serve the public through a restaurant located on the Racine Campus.
Gateway’s Culinary Arts associate degree program places emphasis on food purchasing, specialty food preparation, dining room operation and quantity food preparation and sanitation. Students will also learn hands-on all business aspects of restaurant operations as well as preparation of different foods.
Wisconsin is the upper Midwest's summer playground, and the Hospitality Management-Tourism and Attractions associate degree program focuses on supervisory skills needed to manage a tourist attraction. This program is ideal for people who want to create events that draw people to a region as well as those who are currently working for an attraction and want to progress in the field. The Hospitality Management-Food and Beverage associate degree program is designed for students who want to manage customer contact operations within the restaurant, bar, food service establishment, or catering company. Students will explore the principles of basic food service operations and management as well as how to execute great service. The focus is on creating warm and inviting establishments for the general public.
