District Board Appointments

Notice is hereby given that the Board Appointment Committee will accept applications from District residents seeking appointment to the Gateway Technical College District Board until noon, Thursday, February 25, 2016. Following is a list of openings:

One (1) Additional Member

One (1) Employee Member Seat

One (1) Employer Member Seat

Vacant is one (1) Kenosha County Seat, one (1) Racine County Seat, and one (1) Walworth County Seat.

Three (3) appointees will be appointed to three-year terms commencing on July 1, 2016 and expiring on June 30, 2019. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

AN ADDITIONAL MEMBER IS DEFINED AS: All residents of a technical college district are eligible to serve as an additional member for the college.

AN EMPLOYEE MEMBER IS DEFINED AS: You receive payment for work performed but do not qualify as an employer using the definition described above. An officer or agent of a labor organization automatically qualifies as an employee.

AN EMPLOYER MEMBER IS DEFINED AS:  To qualify as an employer, you must receive earnings as payment for your service and possess the power to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline other employees or adjust employee grievances or effectively recommend such action if in connection with the exercise of such power the person exercises independent judgment in relation to the power. Employer does not include a person acting in the capacity of officer or agent of a labor organization.

Applicants assume responsibility for receipt of the application/ affidavit, obtaining two (2) letters of recommendation, and having the application/affidavit NOTARIZED PRIOR TO SUBMITTING.

The Appointment Committee will meet at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at the Burlington Center of Gateway Technical College, 496 McCanna Parkway, Burlington, WI, Room 100, to hold a public hearing on nominations, review the Plan for Representation; consider the appointment of representatives; and to consider other items relating to the appointment process. 

IN ORDER TO MEET ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS, ALL CANDIDATES MUST ATTEND THE APPOINTMENT COMMITTEE PUBLIC HEARING IN PERSON AND BE INTERVIEWED.

The Gateway Technical College Appointment Committee reserves the right to adjourn into executive session at this meeting per Wisconsin Statute 19.85(1)(c) and (1)(f) to consider information which, if discussed in public, would be likely to have a substantial adverse effect upon the reputation of any person and reserves the right to reconvene into open session for the purpose of taking action. WOMEN AND MINORITIES ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.

For purposes of state mandated application period limitations, official advertising of this notice occurred February 10, 2016, in the Kenosha News, Racine Journal Times and Southern Newspaper Chain.  Any other posting occurred as a courtesy in an attempt to provide notice to all residents of the district.
