Gateway Technical College will offer a workshop outlining the plastic pollution problem and what can be done to fix it, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 30 at the Center for Sustainable Living on its Kenosha Campus, 3520-30th Ave.
A brief presentation will be followed by several hands-on activities to create plastic-free and waste-free alternatives to address the pollution issue.

The U.S. Department of Education announced that Gateway Technical College is among the 2018 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools Postsecondary Sustainability Awardees.
Gateway was nominated by the University of Wisconsin System as the post-secondary institution to represent the state, and was one of only six nationally to receive the designation.
Gateway Technical College will once again spotlight the environment with its annual Celebrate Earth Day, featuring fun, hands-on activities for all ages to learn how to be stewards of the environment.
Celebrate Earth Day will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 21 on Gateway’s Kenosha Campus, 3520-30th Ave. and Gateway’s Elkhorn Campus, 400 County Road H, Elkhorn.
This year marks the 11th anniversary of the annual event in Kenosha which has drawn thousands over the years.
Gateway Technical College and Greening Racine have added even more creativity, art and music to their annual EcoFest Racine event through several nature and environmentally themed music acts as well as the Ecoart for Ecofest Vital Art Project.
Ecofest, a community event aimed at sharing and celebrating sustainable practices, will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 17 in the Lake Building on the college’s Racine Campus, 1001 S. Main St.
Gateway Technical College will hold a horticulture and urban forestry career internship and job fair 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 15 in the Atrium of the Academic Building on the college’s Kenosha Campus, 3520-30th Ave.
Job-seekers can meet prospective area employers at the fair who are seeking to fill internship, full-time, part-time and seasonal positions for careers in horticulture, arboriculture, urban forestry and supporting fields.
Attendees are asked to bring a résumé.

Gateway Technical College will offer a precursor to its Celebrate Earth Day event a couple days early by hosting the Permaculture Initiative of Kenosha event 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 19 at the Pike Creek Horticulture Center on the college’s Kenosha Campus, 3520-30th Ave.
“The group is focused on promoting permaculture in the community – beginning with our own yards,” said Kate Field, Gateway Horticulture instructor and certified permaculture designer. “Our aim is also to form friendships with like-minded folks and have fun.”
