WGTD Radio Theater takes show on road for ‘New Jack Benny Show’

The WGTD Radio Theater will take its live performance on the road for “The New Jack Benny Show” and “It’s the Professor!!” 11:15 a.m. Sept. 14 in front of a studio audience in the Frontier Room of Lake Lawn Resort, 2400 E. Geneva St., Delavan.

The seven-time award-winning WGTD Radio Theater features Gary Stamm in his role as Jack Benny and will air another installment of the ongoing “Professor” series. The broadcast is co-produced by Steve Brown and Mike Ullstrup.

This broadcast provides a new venue and structure for the WGTD Radio Theater. A breakfast buffet will be served in the Frontier Room beginning at 9 a.m., and tickets for the breakfast and broadcast will be $20. The cost for attending the show only is $10, and those who choose this option should arrive by 10:45 a.m. Reservations can be made by calling Lake Lawn Resort at (262) 725-9155.

“We will be broadcasting three of the next four Radio Theater programs from Lake Lawn Resort, which gives the 91.1 Players a chance to reach out to our large and geographically widespread listening area, which includes Kenosha, Racine, Elkhorn and Lake Geneva,” says Brown.

“And, what’s better than starting our relationship with Lake Lawn than with ‘The Jack Benny Show,’ starring Gary Stamm as Jack Benny?”

“Lake Lawn Resort is certainly not a stranger to live radio broadcasts,” says Ullstrup. “In fact, Lake Lawn gained national recognition just after the Depression when it became host to the Mutual Broadcasting Network. That network routinely aired live broadcast performances from the newly renovated ballroom. Even Lawrence Welk made Lake Lawn a regular stop on his broadcast tours. So, from Lawrence Welk of yesteryear to our New Jack Benny Show of 2013 – that’s bringing old-time radio full circle.”

In this original story, written by Ullstrup and Brown, Jack and the gang head out to Walworth County and Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan.

Jack tells Don Wilson (Siegfried Christoph), Mary Livingstone (Viki DuMez), Phil Harris (John O’Leksy)  and Dennis Day (Todd Eaves)  that they will all be enjoying a wonderful weekend stay at this beautiful resort on Delavan Lake, but they soon find out that Jack has not been completely honest. And, of course, Ronald (John O’Leksy) and Benita Colman (Chris Brookes) will be there in all their splendor and formality.

Live music, as always, will be featured on Jack’s show, with local blues jazz singer “Sweet Bev” Perron and her jazz guitar combo.

In addition to this original and classic Jack Benny comedy, there will also be another installment of “It’s the Professor!!” Join the gang at Boca Del Rio - Phase 3.

In addition to being aired over WGTD, the program will also be streamed live online at WGTD.org. WGTD can be heard in Racine and Kenosha counties at 91.1 FM, in the Elkhorn area at 101.7 FM, and in the Lake Geneva area at 103.3 FM.
