Gateway Technical College’s Jeremy Dutton has been named the Tormach Instructor of the Year by NC3 National Coalition of Certification Centers for his work to teach machining skills to technical college and high school educators around the country.
Dutton is a longtime Gateway instructor who has taught academic as well as customized training courses.
“Jeremy's expertise and attention to detail in CNC machining is a major asset to NC3's Tormach program,” said Morgan Garvey, NC3 program manager. “He has a genuine heart for teaching and helping others, which is evident to all who are fortunate enough to learn from him. He has been an integral part of NC3's Tormach program, and we are looking forward to many more years of CNC Machining with Jeremy as a gifted Master Instructor.”
The Madison-based Tormach company produces CNC machines to be used for such processes as milling, lathes, routers and small-scale production.
“I have a passion to help someone else, to train instructors and teachers – who will then instruct their own students,” said Dutton. “I like to work with them and figure out how they can adapt the training I provide to them for their individual classrooms. That’s a great feeling of satisfaction, to know that I’ve helped someone else.”
Dutton was hired by Gateway in 2012 and worked for the academic program side of the college for many years before becoming an instructor in the Business and Workforce Solutions division, where he teaches customized training. He donates many hours to NC3 to go to other states to train other educators.
