The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association recognized WGTD Radio Theater with two awards at its May 7 convention, the top award for Best Specialty Programming in Medium Market Radio and third place for Best Significant Community Impact in Medium Market Radio.
The radio theater is part of WGTD-FM, a service brought to the area by Gateway Technical College.
The WBA recognized the radio theater’s entire 2015 season for its Best Specialty Programming award, and the show, “A Seat by the Window” for the Best Significant Community Impact award.
“We were absolutely thrilled to receive this award on behalf of our artists, underwriters and listeners,” said co-executive producer Steve Brown. “It just confirms that after 11 years, we continue to bring unique and quality programming to the area.”
Shows for the 2015 season included: “Cartoons-on-the Radio Mash-up, 2015!” “A Seat by the Window,” “Mars: Inside & Out,” “The Kane Shadow: A Roaring Murder!” “Summer's Over!” “Sorry, Wrong Number & Three Skeleton Key,” “Detectives Times Two!” and “Lost and Found for the Holidays!”
“We are working hard to bring some more great shows to our audiences that stretch from Kenosha and Racine, out to Lake Geneva and Delavan in our 12th season,” said Mike Ullstrup, co-executive producer. “Stay tuned!”
The second award was for “A Seat by the Window,” a poignant script showing how overt racism can impact all facets of life. This show was written and directed by local writer and actor, Barb Tylla.
“This award meant so much to me because the show was selected from other shows broadcast across the entire state of Wisconsin,” said Tylla. “Also, my daughter and a couple of my granddaughters acted in it so that made it a special show for me.”
