News Release:

Serriah Rasmussen was named Gateway Technical College’s newest District Ambassador and will now serve as the student voice of the college to communities in Kenosha County, Racine County and Walworth County, as well as at speaking engagements during public events held by the college each year.

Rasmussen (Caledonia), a Marketing student, was initially selected as the Racine Campus Ambassador before being selected as District Ambassador. Other Campus Ambassadors selected include Nursing student Jessica Batko (Salem) for the Kenosha Campus and Liberal Arts-Associate of Arts student William Millar (Madison) for the Elkhorn Campus. One District Ambassador is chosen from the field of three campus ambassadors.

They officially began their ambassador duties Feb. 16.

“Gateway’s campus Ambassador program highlights the very best of our student community and provides an important platform for students to represent Gateway with pride and professionalism,” said Tammi Summers, Gateway Technical College vice president, Student Affairs. “Through this experience, campus Ambassadors gain key leadership skills such as communication, confidence and advocacy skills that support their future career success.

“The program also plays an important role in student engagement, helping students build stronger connections to the college, which directly contributes to persistence, success and completion. We are proud to celebrate these student leaders as they inspire others and serve as outstanding representatives of the Gateway Red Hawk spirit.”

Rasmussen will represent Gateway at a statewide leadership conference of District Ambassadors from each college of the Wisconsin Technical College System and also received a Gateway Technical College Foundation tuition voucher. Batko and Millar will also receive a Foundation tuition voucher and serve as the student voice to communities and the college from their respective campuses.

Nominees are selected based on their outstanding character, positive attitude, leadership abilities, personal goals, communication skills, enthusiasm and self-confidence.
