Lakeview Technology students capture top honor at Gateway’s Sumobot competition

The Lakeview Technology Academy team of Sacred Sombreros captured the top position at Gateway Technical College’s annual SumoBot competition held May 3 at the college’s SC Johnson integrated Manufacturing and Engineering Technology Center in Sturtevant.

Sacred Sombreros team members also took first place in the Speed and Agility category on its way to beating out more than 350 other student competitors.

“The annual Sumo Bot competition gives students a real-world engineering design challenge,” says Pat Hoppe, Engineering division chairman. “They utilize all aspects of science, technology, engineering and math – STEM – throughout the design process.”

Students and their robots competed in four events: Presentation and Documentation, Timed Task, Speed and Agility and SumoBot wrestling.

Results are as follows (school followed by team name):

Sumo Bot

First: Westosha Central High School, Undefined Vehicle

Second: Elkhorn High School, ETEC

Third: Paris Consolidated School, The Force

 

Timed Task

First: Westosha Central, Strong Kronk

Second: REAL School, REAL Robotics

Third: Paris Consolidated School, The Force

 

Speed and Agility

First: Lakeview Technology Academy, Sacred Sombreros

Second: Lakeview Technology Academy, Legends

Third: Westosha Central High School, Strong Kronk

 

Presentation and Documentation

First: Fort Atkinson Middle School, Team Overdrive

Second: Fort Atkinson Middle School, Bread - Electric Wizards

Third: Walden High School, Walden Wonder Women
