News Release:

Gateway Technical College students will honor Dr. Martin Luther King on Jan. 23 through a number of service activities at local non-profits.

The student-focused MLK Day of Service will benefit the Women’s Resource Center in Racine, the Twin Oaks Shelter for the Homeless in Darien and the Kenosha Welcome Center.

“The focus that day is to educate, advocate and celebrate,” says Sarah Marbes, Gateway Impact Program coordinator. “To advocate, students will provide at least two hours of work at each site. To educate, we will have videos playing at our campuses earlier in the week, where students can stop by and see the work and life of Dr. King.

“To celebrate, we are highlighting on our social media platforms some of the great work students have done to serve others.”

Specific work done at each non-profit has yet to be finalized. While the effort is primarily student-focused, Marbes says Gateway staff are also welcome to participate, and she expects many to do so.
