Gateway students bring home several DECA honors

Gateway DECA at international career development conference in Washington D.C.

Gateway Technical College student and Collegiate DECA team member Ryan Bognar of Wind Lake was selected as the 2018-19 International College DECA president at the group’s international career development conference in Washington D.C. April 10 to April 15.

Bognar is Gateway’s 2017-18 Star Ambassador and, as such, represents the voice of Gateway’s students for community and legislative events. He is a member of the Gateway Elkhorn Campus DECA.

One Gateway student also won his respective competition at the international event: Alexander Paul (Kenosha) captured first place in the Human Resource Management competition category after winning it at the state level in March. Jacob Powell (Kenosha), took third place in the Banking Financial Services competition at the international event after taking second at the state level.

Gateway students also placed in the top 10 and were honored at the event. They were:

  • The team of Bognar and Violeta Tellez (Lake Geneva), Emerging Technology Marketing Strategies.
  • John Neu (Burlington), Accounting
  • Yesenia Martinez-Hall (Trevor), Human Resources
  • Tyler Lewandowski (Kenosha), Retail Management

David St. Peter (Kenosha) was a finalist in the Sales Manager Meeting Event and placed in the top 12.

The Kenosha Campus chapter took second place in the Cluster/Chapter Award for having the most points/wins in the Finance and Accounting events. The chapter also was awarded Presidential Level, chapter Passport Award, as well as the Community Service Award.
