News Release:

Gateway Technical College’s student chapter of dig.IT will hold its popular public computer repair clinic February 20-21 in Room 102 of the Conference Center on the Racine Campus, 1001 S. Main St.

Those interested in the clinic should use the northeast entrance (Door 21) off of Pershing Blvd., near the skate park.

Computer and device check-in will be held from noon to 8 p.m. February 20.

Computer pickup will be 10 a.m. to noon February 21 in Room 102 of the Conference Center on the Racine Campus. Computer owners will receive a text or call when their device is ready.

The clinic is a fundraiser for the student Information Technology club. Participants are encouraged to contribute $20 for each computer or device worked on. A cleaning service may be requested for a separate contribution.

Computers will be accepted for repair on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached. Windows 10 is no longer secure, and computers with it will need to be upgraded to Windows 11 before they are worked on. Students will also now have the tools to check a PC’s compatibility with Windows 11 and have the ability to upgrade to Windows 11, if possible.

Students can assist with the following:

  • Update PC operating systems.
  • Hardware consulting.
  • Check for viruses and malware.
  • Diagnose internet connectivity issues.
  • Optimize computer function.
  • Perform Windows upgrades (if computer hardware is compatible).
  • Install hardware provided by the customer.
  • iOS updates on iPhone and iPad.
