Gateway instructor named national educator of the year finalist

Gateway Technical College instructor Rick Lofy was named one of three finalists for the American Technical Education Association Outstanding National Technical Teacher of the Year award.

Lofy is an instructor and trainer at Gateway, teaching students and business clients in Lean Manufacturing Principles, advanced leadership and process control methods, among other topics. He is well known for being a lead instructor in the college’s nationally known manufacturing boot camp programs.

One of his nominators said: “During his 16 years with Gateway Technical College, he has developed numerous courses and programs that are the embodiment of skill demonstration for successful employment.”

While Lofy was a finalist, he was not selected as top ATEA outstanding instructor. ATEA is “dedicated to excellence in quality of postsecondary technical education focusing on practical teaching ideas and best practices.”
