News Release:

There was no need to call 911 for an emergency on the Kenesha Campus on Saturday – Gateway’s students had it covered.

Students from health care and emergency services programs honed their career skills at the college’s annual Red Hawk Rescue, a simulated disaster training event.

The interprofessional simulation event brings together students from multiple programs to use the skills they’ve gained at Gateway for this one-day training event. Students from Nursing, EMS, Physical Therapist Assistant, Surgical Technology and Respiratory Therapy participated, triaging and working with volunteer “patients” starting at HARIBO Hall and then moving into the Nursing and Surgical Technology labs.

Students also learned how to communicate with other emergency service personnel and ensure patient safety remains a priority through the transfer of care.
