Gateway continues annual student-driven chair-ity auction event

What do Fido, Whiskers and chairs have in common?

They’ll all be featured at Gateway Technical College’s Interior Design student organization’s 15th Annual Chair-ity Auction, a live auction of one-of-kind, student-designed chairs Nov. 17 at the Kenosha Country Club, 500 13th Ave., Kenosha.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction of home décor and gift certificates from area businesses. About 20 student-designed chairs will be auctioned live beginning at 7 p.m. This year’s chair theme is pets.

Students acquire chairs from thrift stores, rummage sales, friends and family, and give them new life and use. They reupholster, paint, decoupage, stencil and adorn the chairs until they look much different than when they first obtained them.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Safe Harbor Humane Society in Kenosha, as well as support the Gateway Technical College Interior Design student club in advanced learning opportunities.

Tickets are available at the event, $20 for general admission, $10 for American Society of Interior Designers members and Gateway students with their student identification. Tickets are half off for those who donate at least 10 pounds of pet food.
