Gateway Collegiate DECA to host spaghetti fund-raiser to benefit veteran’s group, club

Gateway Technical College’s Collegiate DECA student club will host a spaghetti dinner and raffle fund-raiser to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project as well as their club, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 25 at Buona Vita Pizzeria Restaurant, 3701 Durand Ave., Racine.

Tickets are available for purchase in advance at $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger, or available from the restaurant the day of the event. Those wishing to buy a ticket in advance can call (262) 989-3283. Diners can eat at the restaurant or carry-out.

The Wounded Warrior Project supports a full range of programs and services for this generation of injured veterans and their families.

Raffle items include a signed Green Bay Packers football, Milwaukee Bucks tickets, an Elkhart Lakes Racing weekend package and many other sports and entertainment items.

Gateway’s Collegiate DECA initiated the fund-raiser as a way to reach out and serve the community. They decided to specifically benefit the Wounded Warrior Project in conjunction with the national DECA’s effort.

“The national Collegiate DECA organization each year selects a charity group to work with, and this year’s group is Wounded Warriors,” said Gateway Marketing instructor Jennifer Christianson.

Christianson said in addition to helping the Wounded Warrior Project, students who work on the fund-raiser gain real-world skills.

“They learn leadership skills in taking the steps to make sure the fund-raiser is a success. They are putting into practice what they’ve learned in the classroom to benefit this very worthwhile organization,” she says.
