Community Events

Celebrate Earth Day


On the Saturday closest to Earth Day in April, Gateway celebrates our environment with displays, workshops, hands-on activities for people of all ages, and other environment-related activities. The event, started on Gateway's Kenosha Campus in 2008, was extended to the Elkhorn Campus in 2012. Hundreds of community members visit the Gateway campuses to learn and show their support for our environment. The 2015 Celebrate Earth Day event will be held from 10 am -2 pm on April 25th on the Kenosha Campus and 9 am - 2 pm on the Elkhorn Campus.  Please see below for special events that begin before each public event in which we encourage you to participate. A gracious thank you to our event sponsor, Snap-on Incorporated for their support. And, additionally in Elkhorn, to Elkhorn Parks and Recreation Department and the Elkhorn Chamber of Commerce.

Holiday Gifting Show

December 5, 2015

Join us for our 8th annual Holiday Gifting art and craft show. More than 110 vendors will feature art, craft, and specialty products ideal for your holiday gifting. The Gifting Show features art such as photography, mosaics, jewelry, blown glass; crafts including holiday décor, home and yard art, clothing, and tasty treats. Your favorite home-based vendors will also be there. 

Come prepared to take part in a great raffle to win some of our vendors donated items. 

All proceeds support the Gateway Foundation's Student Emergency Fund and a Scholarship.

Safety Day at Gateway

MLK Flyer 2015Gateway Technical College along with the Milwaukee Area OSHA office, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Wisconsin Chapter, and WisCon offer the 4th annual Safety Day at Gateway's Racine Building Conference Center on March 11, 2015 from 7:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The ability to maintain a safe and secure workplace is essential to worker safety. This conference is designed for employees and managers of businesses in general industry to provide the resources and information to enhance safety through awareness, design, delivery and evaluation. 

Topics include Emergency Evacuation, Violence in the Workplace, Ergonomics and Lock Out Tag Out. There are numerous new sessions this year including Fall Protection, OSHA Record Keeping with Rule Change, Respiratory Protection, Machine Guarding, Ladder Safety, Safety Management Practices and Industrial Hygiene.

The annual WinterGreen Horticulture conference, offers conference-goers a chance to get some inspiration for their own gardening or landscaping projects. WinterGreen features guest speakers and seminars delivered by gardening and landscape professionals.

Global Entrepreneurship Week Events

Global Entrepreneurship Week is the week of November 17-23, 2014. Gateway has also dedicated this week to self-starters, inventors and innovators. We will be hosting a variety of events that will inspire participants. There are activities planned for Gateway students as well as members of our local communities. The events will span the tri-county district that we serve in an effort to create a climate that will advance economic development. 

FABulous Holiday Workshops

Join us for a fun and interactive family activity in the Fab Lab. Use the tools and equipment to create holiday crafts and ornaments. Decorate a 3D printed snowman and complete projects using a laser engraver and vinyl cutter. Enjoy cookies and beverages!

12th Annual Chair-ity Auction

Fill that special place in your home with a one-of-a-kind student designed chair!

The Gateway Technical College Interior Design student organization is hosting its annual Chair-ity Auction benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Kenosha and Gateway Interior Design (ASID) student organization. Gateway Interior Design students rescue chairs, give them a fresh design and sell them to the highest bidder at this unique benefit event.

Harvest Fair is a free family event designed to educate about locally and organically grown food and environmental sustainability as well as experience  autumn along the shore of beautiful Lake Michigan.

Deaf Culture Day

Deaf Culture day is held on the Elkhorn Campus—generally in late March or early April--to honor deaf culture in America.  The event strives to bring hearing and deaf cultures together to break down communication and cultural barriers. Organizers also hope it will increase education and awareness of deaf culture.  The event generally features a guest speaker and several activities designed to bring deaf/hard of hearing people together with the hearing population for greater understanding.

Plant Sales

The annual plant sale features many different plants, including several new and exciting hybrids. Plants sales help pay for Horticulture student industry and career exploration trips, scholarships, garden needs and general program needs as well.
