Healthcare and Service-Learning Program

Tentative Travel Dates: April 21-May 1, 2027 (Dates are subject to change)

This 11-day program focuses on gaining a greater understanding of the healthcare system in Cusco, Peru. This opportunity caters to students who are enrolled in a healthcare program, including Nursing, Dental Assistant and Physical Therapy Assistant, and is also open to alumni.

  • Get hands-on experience and training, observing patient care and assisting local healthcare professionals with patient intake and tracking, wound care, suturing, injections, childbirth support and postpartum care. Placements can also be tailored to best suit your specific program.
  • Participate in outreach programs that serve communities in need, providing essential services like health screenings, dental and vision checks, and educational workshops on nutrition, hygiene and disease prevention, as well as medical workshops on topics like tropical and infectious diseases.
  • Travel to noteworthy Peruvian sites like Machu Picchu and the Temple of the Sun (Qorikancha), giving you a firsthand look at the gorgeous natural beauty and historic landmarks that Cusco has to offer.
  • Participation in this program contributes 20 hours of international program-related position shadowing.

Cost Information

The estimated cost is $3,200 and includes:

  • Airfare, most cultural excursions, transportation, host family accommodations (most meals included) and medical insurance - $2,700
  • Required Gateway course: International Field Study (3 Credits) - $500
