Put yourself on the path to success through Gateway’s Tutoring Services! All enrolled students have access to free in-person and online tutoring for many subject areas. Trained tutors help you learn how to understand course concepts, improve study skills and develop test-taking strategies. The goal of tutoring at Gateway is to help you discover how you learn best and put your new study strategies into practice on your own.

In-Person Tutoring is offered on all three campuses within the campus’s Learning Success Center:
During a typical tutoring session, you and the tutor will sit at a table–with or without a computer–to discuss your course assignments or upcoming quizzes or exams. To quickly identify where in particular you want to focus during the session, please bring:
- Your assignment
- Course notes
- Any other course materials
As you and the tutor work together, the tutor will help you recognize your strengths and weaknesses to allow you to better work independently when you are away from the Tutoring Center.
In tutoring sessions for writing, tutors act as outside readers, asking clarifying questions that will help you revise your writing to meet your assignment goals. Either you or the tutor will read your work aloud during the session to help you hear errors that may be missed in silent reading. It’s important to know that your tutor will help you learn how to identify grammar and mechanical errors and how to fix them in future assignments, rather than proofreading or editing your writing.
Live Online Tutoring is available for free to Gateway students and can be accessed through the BrainfuseHelpNow button in your Blackboard course pages. Help with math and writing are available 24/7.
