Fresh Start to Finish

Tight budgets, transportation and child care can force students to make difficult decisions. Tough choices shouldn’t mean finishing college gets harder. If unpaid past due balances at Gateway keep you from registering, the Fresh Start to Finish may give you the opportunity to have your prior debt forgiven while you continue your studies over three consecutive semesters. Learn more about how to apply below. 


Apply for the Fresh Start to Finish:

  1. Make sure you meet the eligibility requirements below 
  2. Complete the application.
  3. Watch for an email about your status that lists next steps if you are accepted.
  4. Complete a required financial literacy component.
  5. Earn a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA while taking at least 6 credits over the course of three semesters.

Eligibility

In order to qualify for the Fresh Start to Finish, students must have earned 9 credits or higher at Gateway and owe between $200 and $1500 in total unpaid prior debt incurred within the 6 years prior to reentry. To be eligible for the program, you must not have attended Gateway Technical College for a minimum of three semesters after the debt was incurred or hold an associate degree from Gateway. Students must complete their financial aid applications and submit all required documents and be accepted into a financial aid eligible program. (Financial Aid award is not required, but FAFSA must be submitted.)
