Advisory Committees

Help us help you – serve on one of our advisory committees.

Bring your expertise, provide insight into the changing needs of your industry, review our program requirements – help us to make sure we’re providing the proper training for our graduates to succeed in your industry.

Your work on this committee will benefit students. Your work will benefit the next generation in your industry. Finally, your work will benefit the college as you bring real-world job insight to education.

More than 400 industry experts from 200 area organizations serve Gateway through their membership on academic program advisory committees. Committee members provide valuable information on current labor needs, future trends and offer a pragmatic look at the college’s educational training and curriculum.

All state-approved occupational programs at Gateway are required to have an advisory committee. If you are interested in serving, please review the Advisory Committee Handbook for more detail about college governance and what to expect as a Committee member.​

Who can serve on an advisory committee?

Committee members must meet the following qualifications for committee membership:

  • Employed in – or affiliated with – the occupation.
  • Employed in or reside in the Gateway district.*
  • Not be employees of Gateway Technical College nor be enrolled in the program which they are advising.*

(* these requirements are waived under certain specific circumstances)

What are the benefits of serving on a committee?

In addition to the satisfaction of helping students, members will benefit in many ways. A few include:

  • Members guide the direction of the education of their workforce to meet their company’s and your profession’s needs.
  • Members have an inside track to hiring well-educated employees.
  • Members will help Gateway be a good steward of the tax dollars that you and your company pay to the state and to the college.
  • Members earn the prestige of being associated with a respected community institution of higher learning.

What is the time commitment?

  • Four meetings over a two-year time period.
