Jacquita Hughes named Gateway Student District Star Ambassador

Gateway Star Ambassadors - 2014
Star Ambassadors:
Aaron Cole, Jacquita Hughes, Joshua Paul

Jacquita Hughes, of Racine, was named Gateway Technical College’s District Star Ambassador at the Star Ambassador Awards ceremony held Feb. 13 in the Madrigrano Auditorium of the Conference Center on Gateway’s Kenosha Campus.

As District Ambassador, Hughes will represent the student voice of the college to communities in Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties as well as speaking engagements at several public events held by the college each year. Hughes will represent Gateway at a statewide leadership conference of District Ambassadors from each college of the Wisconsin Technical College System, serve at the keynote speaker at Gateway’s Adult High School completion ceremony and will also receive a Gateway Technical Foundation Inc. scholarship.

Hughes was initially selected as Racine Campus Star Ambassador. Other Star Ambassadors selected include Aaron Cole, Kenosha, for the Elkhorn Campus and Burlington Center, and Joshua Paul, Pleasant Prairie, for the Kenosha Campus. The procedure calls for the District Ambassador to be chosen from the field of three Star Ambassadors.

As Star Ambassadors, Paul and Cole also will receive Foundation scholarships and serve as the student voice to communities and the college from their respective campus.

Hughes, Paul and Cole were selected among a pool of 24 students nominated for the award from Gateway faculty and staff members. Nominees are selected based on their outstanding character, positive attitude, leadership, personal goals, communication skills, enthusiasm and self-confidence.
