The Health Profession Opportunity Program (HPOP) prepares eligible persons to enter and advance in healthcare professions that are expected to be in high demand.
By combining supportive services and education, this program can help develop the skills and competencies demanded by the healthcare industry.
Eligible HPOP participants can receive financial support for the costs of tuition, books, fees and supplies. In addition, HPOP participants may be eligible for assistance in the areas of transportation, child care and more.
Gateway health care opportunities include:
- Community Pharmacy Technician
- Health Information Technology
- Health Unit Coordinator
- Medical Assistant
- Physical Therapist Assistant
- Surgical Technology
HPOP participants must be from southeastern Wisconsin and meet eligibility requirements including:
- Must have 2.5 program GPA or higher
- Must have petitioned and been accepted to clinical component of academic program
- Meet income guidelines
- Must attend mandatory orientation
- TANF Recipients
- State or Tribal TANF Recipients
- Federal Eligible low-income
- Veterans low income
- Aged out of foster care
Participation is limited to citizens of the US or those meeting immigrant eligibility requirements for Federal Public Benefits.
All HPOP careers require alcohol and other drug use testing, as well as criminal and caregiver background checks.
HPOP participants may be required to participate in clinical placements or job shadowing that takes place during second or third shift hours.
These programs can be demanding. Gateway will provide and/or coordinate the supportive services necessary to help participants become successful in the pursuit of a health care career.
