“Silence remains, inescapably, a form of speech.” - Susan Sontag
Have you sat silent in the face of stereotypes and bias? You didn’t know what to say? Were you afraid to speak up? Staying silent in the face of demeaning comments, stereotypes or bias allows these attitudes and behaviors to thrive. This undermines our ability to create an inclusive campus, workplace or organization where each person is welcomed, treated with respect and able to do their best work. Yet, many times we want to speak up but don’t know how to. So, we say nothing. In this workshop, explore why people don’t speak up against stereotypes and other bias behaviors. Additionally, enhance your skills for speaking up against stereotypes with useful, easy-to-learn techniques as you communicate in a diverse world.
