Matt Janisin

Janisin named VP of Business and Workforce Solutions

Matt Janisin has been named Gateway’s new vice president of the Business and Workforce Solutions Division.

Janisin takes over the helm of the division from outgoing vice president Debbie Davidson, who is retiring.

“I am excited to continue the great work Gateway is known for at the local, state and national level in the areas of industry partnerships and customized training solutions,” said Janisin.

Janisin has worked for Gateway since 2007 in a variety of positions within the college’s Automotive Technology program, as well as national transportation industry education programs.

Gateway names veterans of year

Three Gateway students, one from each of the college’s main campuses, were recognized during the Veterans Honor Event held Nov. 7 on the Kenosha Campus as being veterans of the year for the 2017-18 Academic Year.

They are as follows:
  • Racine Campus: Matthew Jorgenson
  • Kenosha Campus: Jessica Schmidt
  • Elkhorn Campus/Burlington Center: Angela Boro

“Drive to Succeed” features Gateway connections to industry.

Gateway students, staff featured in national video

Gateway Technical College students, staff and business partners associated with the college’s Automotive Technology program are featured in the national video “The Drive to Succeed” released by Working Nation.

The short video focuses on the strong partnerships Gateway has forged with Snap-on Incorporated to provide a way to match curriculum to the essential skills needed by automotive professionals in today’s world.

Gateway helps student begin three careers

Gateway Technical College helped Zaida Hernandez begin three successful careers.  

From beginning of her journey in high school to employment and finishing her third degree, Hernandez’s educational journey is filled with her strength and reliance on Gateway as the foundation to her success.

Gateway’s gifting show will be held Dec. 2.

Holiday art and craft show features hand-crafted gifts

More than 130 vendors will feature art, craft and specialty products ideal for holiday shoppers at the 10th Annual Holiday Gifting Art and Craft show fund-raiser 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Gateway’s Kenosha Campus, 3520-30th Ave.

The event is free and open to the public.

The show features holiday decor, photography, paintings, jewelry, pottery, felted wool items, crafts, children’s clothing, doll clothing, tasty treats and home and yard art. The fair will fill the majority of the main academic complex including the Technical, Science, Service and Academic Building corridors.

Students from many programs made the Summer 2017 dean’s list.

Gateway releases Dean’s list

The following individuals have earned the honor of being included on the Gateway Technical College Dean’s List for the Summer 2017 semester. This award is reserved for those students who completed at least 6 hours of postsecondary course work – not including development/remedial credits – and achieved a grade point average of 3.75 or higher. Dean’s list calculations are based on courses that have finished (been graded) by the end of the traditional semester.

President and CEO Bryan Albrecht was named 2017 Distinguished Citizen.

Boy Scouts honor Gateway president

Three Harbors Council Boy Scouts of America honored Gateway Technical College President Bryan Albrecht with its 2017 Distinguished Citizen Award for his community leadership and civic dedication.

Albrecht was honored at a luncheon held in the Madrigrano Auditorium in the Conference Center on the college’s Kenosha Campus.

“To the youth of this country, Bryan Albrecht is a beacon and a guide,” said Nick Pinchuk, Snap-on Incorporated chairman and CEO.

Gateway, German college officials ink agreement to continue as sister schools.

German students continue partnership with Gateway

Gateway Technical College again hosted students from Kaufmannische Schulen as part of an ongoing partnership with the in Hanau, Germany, college.

Since the formation of the partnership, students from KS-Hanau have visited Gateway annually and in 2007 the first group of Gateway students traveled to Hanau. Each year Gateway students now travel to Hanau and participate in hands-on project-based learning with KS-Hanau students.

This year's visit was particularly special, as Gateway Technical College celebrated and extended its partnership as a sister school with Kaufmannische Schulen.
