The display by the Gateway Interior Design Students at the NARI show is this year’s crowd favorite winner!
While winter has hardly been inviting for many, Gateway students recently used outdoor elements to design a welcoming dining room.
Six Interior Design students put together a nature-inspired dining room for a contest held during the 52nd annual Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Show at State Fair Park in West Allis. Gateway was voted to have the best design and took top honors.
Participating in the collegiate room design event were Michelle Adrian of Kenosha, Angie Hovorka of Racine, Sarah Mason of Kenosha, Megan A. Schultz of Caledonia, Katherine Sturino of Union Grove and Danielle Wales of Lake Geneva.
“This design of ‘bringing the outdoors in’ uses elegant, nature-inspired gestures to make guests feel right at home,” said Rita Serpe, Gateway Interior Design instructor. “It brings in an elegant ambiance using elements inspired by the outdoors.”
In addition to Gateway, students from Milwaukee Area Technical College, Mount Mary College and Waukesha County Technical College also designed 12-by-12-foot rooms for the home show competition. Each school received $1,000 from the Milwaukee/NARI Foundation for its interior design program.
