Connecting to the world of work

Students hear directly from professionals in their field
Meet the Professionals

Gateway students had an opportunity to sit down with those in the career field they are pursuing and learn from their experiences.

More than 60 Gateway students got a jump on the transition from student to employee when they attended the March 6 Meet the Professionals event on the Racine Campus. Panelists from health, business, accounting, human services, child care, protective services, manufacturing, technology, consulting and human resources participated, giving students a chance to hear directly from people in the field.

“Students were able to ask direct questions about the steps the panelist took to get them to their current position,” said Damira Grady, career counselor on the Elkhorn Campus. “Many panelists spoke about internships, networking and career transitions. The networking event after the panel allowed students a chance to start making their own professional connections.”

“The networking was really beneficial to me because it helped me understand more about being prepared at all times because you never know when opportunities might come knocking at your door,” said Gateway student Andres Marques. “Also, sharing thoughts and ideas with the professionals pushed me to want to pursue my career in photography and film. The panel did a great job with answering questions.”

Life is Big. Be Prepared.
