Gateway just started a new club called Enactus. What is Enactus? It’s is an international organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to enable progress around the world.
With the help of faculty advisers and business experts, students form teams to create and implement community projects that empower people to improve their quality of life and standard of living. Enactus members take information they’ve learned in the classroom and apply it to the real world to create change.
Enactus is open to all Gateway students who are entrepreneurial in approach and who see opportunity in the things around them. Students can get involved in networking, competitive opportunities, professional development, job creation and more. Meetings will be held through videoconferencing, which is available at all campuses, so it is not necessary for all students to meet at one location.
By participating in Enactus, students are considered by many business and community leaders as among the best in the area.
Anthony Proctor, a Gateway Electrical Engineering Technology student, recently joined Enactus.
“The draw for me was the entrepreneurial aspect and taking what I learn in class and applying it to real-world situations,” Proctor said.
Other advantages of participating in Enactus include finding potential internship and permanent job opportunities. There are also some occasions in which scholarships, awards and other forms of recognition are available to students from businesses that partner with Enactus.
Gateway Fab Lab program coordinator Greg Herker encourages students to join the new Enactus club.
“Now is a good time to get involved because you will be on the ground floor of selecting team projects,” Herker said.
If you are interested in joining Enactus, call Herker at (262) 898-7430 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
