Starting Jan. 1, 2014, the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) mandate regarding individual insurance coverage will begin. This means all citizens of the United States must have “minimum essential” health insurance coverage. Those who lack coverage after New Year’s Day will be penalized when they file their 2014 federal tax return, and will reoccur each year thereafter.
The health insurance marketplace has opened. The marketplace is a health insurance exchange acting as a resource for people to purchase coverage.
If you need assistance, would like to enroll, or have questions about the Affordable Care Act contact the national toll-free number, 24 hours a day, at (800) 318-2596. You may also visit www.Healthcare.gov.
There are also options if you would rather talk face-to-face with someone. In Kenosha, visit either of the Kenosha Community Health Center locations, 4536 22nd Ave., or 6226 14th Ave. Kenosha County Human Services, 8600 Sheridan Road, Suite 100, also has personnel waiting to assist.
