Starting Jan. 1, 2014, the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) mandate regarding individual insurance coverage will begin. This means all citizens of the United States must have “minimum essential” health insurance coverage. Those who lack coverage after New Year’s Day will be penalized when they file their 2014 federal tax return, and will reoccur each year thereafter.
The health insurance marketplace has opened. The marketplace is a health insurance exchange acting as a resource for people to purchase coverage.
