Launch Box helps launch new business to the next level
Kimberly Lee and her husband Ed are using Launch Box, a business development resource of Gateway Technical College and the City of Racine, to further their mission of launching PeopleCare in southeastern Wisconsin.
PeopleCare, LLC is a new take on home care for senior adults and is a franchise of The Senior’s Choice® -a national network of independent senior care providers. Kimberly says, “I saw the need for this service while caring for my aging parents and wanting to spend quality time with an aging aunt.”
As Kimberly began hiring employees and marketing her service, she began utilizing the Launch Box space (located on Main Street on the north end of downtown Racine) to meet with prospective and continuing employees. “At first I wasn’t sure whether the space would work. Much of the area is open concept and I deal with confidential information. But the cubicles and conference room have booth worked very well.”
Kimberly uses the conference room to conduct employee training, utilizing materials provided by The Senior’s Choice®. The technology-equipped room easily accommodates her groups of 2-9 staff for the 7-hour training sessions.
“The Launch Box office provides a professional business atmosphere, which supports the credibility of my new business since the alternative would have been meeting in coffee shops or my home,” Kimberly pointed out. Joining Launch Box, instead of renting space, kept her costs down during the business development phase.
Being an entrepreneur, Kimberly needs to be around others with the entrepreneurial spirit, “We bounce things off of each other.” She has been involved in networking opportunities such as the First Fridays Open House held in August.
Kimberly says Launch Box manager, Kristin Niemiec has been very professional to work with and supportive of her business. “Kristin connects me to the community resources to which she has access. She keeps the Launch Box clients informed about opportunities at the co-working space through email blasts.” Kristin has also asked Kimberly to share her experiences with others interested in starting a business, knowing we can learn much from the experiences of other entrepreneurs.
An added benefit is the relationship between Launch Box and Gateway Technical College, which trains Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), who make good candidates for the varied services offered by PeopleCare.
