Professional Development & Training

The Workforce and Economic Development Division (WEDD) helps your business, industry or organization successfully compete in the global economy by offering innovative workshops for employers and current workers in a variety of disciplines. These non-credit workshops are designed to improve capabilities through job-related training and professional growth opportunities. The workshops are open to everyone. Quality

Lean Operations Certificate Program | 24 hours
Businesses of all types are utilizing lean principles as the primary continuous improvement methodology. Lean changes businesses through techniques that create proven results that translate directly to the bottom-line.  Applying lean principles to your business can: shrink lead time, decrease turnover expense, increase sales, reduce set-up time, multiply inventory turns, and maximize profit.

The program includes 24 hours of classroom instruction, four hours of personal coaching, and requires completion of a workplace project.

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt | 100 hours
Six Sigma is the standard of measure for world-class quality. Public and private companies utilize Six Sigma to achieve bottom-line results. The certification program provides 100 hours of training through 48 hours of classroom, 40 hours of online instructions, and 12 hours of individual coaching/consulting. Content includes: overview of organizational structure, using the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control elements in the DMAIC process, value stream mapping, and completion of individual workplace improvement projects.

Software Training

Microsoft Professional Development Workshops

Microsoft Excel/Intermediate | 8 hours
This eight hour course covers creating, modifying, and formatting a chart, using graphics, and sorting and filtering data.

Microsoft Access | 8 hours
This is a course for students wishing to learn the Microsoft Access 07 database management system software. An introduction to database software will be given. Access 07 software will be used to create, modify, retrieve, and print records in useable forms and reports.

Access 2 | 8 hours
Intermediate-level features and functions of Access. Students will learn how to set table relationships, work with Lookup fields and subdatasheets, create join queries, create PivotTables and PivotCharts, and use hyperlink fields and data access pages.

Excel 1 | 8 hours
Learn how to create, store, retrieve and edit a variety of spreadsheets and charts, format worksheets and use formulas. Basic functions will be stressed.

QuickBooks 1 | 8 hours
Learn how to set up a company, work with lists, set up inventory, sell your product, invoice for services, process payments, work with bank accounts, enter and pay bills, and use the EasyStep Interview.

Word 1 | 8 hours
Students will learn how to create and edit documents, move and copy text, format characters and paragraphs, create and manage tables, control page layout, use proofing tools, and work with Word's integrated Web and e-mail features.

Excel 2 | 8 hours
Learn to manage workbooks and prepare them for the Web, automate worksheet tasks, manipulate data using lists, analyze lists and enhance charts and worksheets.

QuickBooks 2 | 8 hours
Learn how to customize forms, use other QuickBooks accounts, create reports, create graphs, track and pay sales tax, do payroll with QuickBooks, prepare estimates, time tracking, and job costing.

Word 2 | 8 hours
Intermediate-level features and functions of Word. Students will learn how to work with sections and columns, format tables, import Excel data, create and modify styles, work with headers and footers, print labels and envelopes, work with graphics and objects, apply and create templates, and manage document versions.

Excel 3 | 8 hours
Advanced-level features and functions of Excel. Students will learn how to create nested functions, export/import data, perform what-if analyses, use the Goal Seek and Solver utilities, record and run macros, and use Share Point services.

Word 3 | 8 hours
Advanced-level functions and features of Word. Students will learn how to perform a mail merge, create and modify forms, work with large documents, create macros, customize menus and toolbars, and use Word's XML-based features.
