Ceremony Information

Gateway holds two graduation ceremonies each year:

  • in December for the summer and fall semesters
  • in May for the spring semester

The graduation ceremonies are a special recognition of your scholastic achievements at Gateway. They are formal cap and gown ceremonies and all graduates are encouraged to participate and be recognized. Tickets are required for all guests.

Post-Secondary Graduates

What is the date, time and length of the graduation ceremony?

Tuesday, May 14th at 7 p.m. The ceremony is approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours long.

Where does the graduation ceremony take place?

UW-Parkside's Sports & Activity Center / DeSimone Gymnasium on Highways E and JR in Kenosha. 

What time should graduates be there?

Graduates are expected to arrive by 6 p.m. and no later than 6:15 p.m. Doors will open to graduates' guests at 6:15 p.m.

UWP is in its finals week and parking is expected to be somewhat limited. Please allow extra time in case you or your guests need to park in more distant lots.  You will have shuttle bus service, but that will require extra time. Click the Parking Map icon on this page.

Is there a rehearsal?

No – ceremony procedures are detailed on an instruction sheet you will receive when you purchase your cap and gown. Please read the procedure instructions carefully.

What about Caps and Gowns?

To maintain the decorum of the ceremony, all graduates must have a black cap and gown to participate. The gowns are made from Renew Fabric, which is 100% certified recycled post-consumer materials. They are available for purchase April 24th  –May 10th.  Cost of the cap, gown, and tassel is $39.00 (plus tax). Tassel only is $6.00. If you are eligible for honors, you will be notified by the bookstore when you pick up your cap and gown.  Honor cords are $7.00 (plus tax).

Where and when can you purchase a cap and gown?

Kenosha, Racine and Elkhorn Campus Follett Bookstores:
Monday – Thursday……………… 9 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Friday ……………………………..9 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Available for purchase April 24th  – May 10th.  Cost of the cap, gown, and tassel is $39.00 (plus tax).

How many guests may I invite?

Due to the limitation of bleacher seating space and fire codes, each student will be issued up to four (4) guest tickets for the ceremony.  Admittance will be by ticket only.  Students must pick up their tickets at the same time they pick up their cap and gown.  Students must have photo ID to pick up tickets.

Students and guests requiring special accommodations/can't climb bleachers

Graduating students requiring special accommodations please contact Dawn Kaiser at 262-564-2570.  The first three rows of the bleachers will be reserved for guests with disabilities.  These seats are for the guest with a "special accommodations" ticket and only one ticketed companion.  These tickets are available through Follett Bookstores. Other guests will be required to sit in the main seating areas

Graduation Photos and Video

Photos

A professional photographer will be taking a photo of each graduate at the ceremony. Please ask your family and friends to refrain from taking pictures or video during the ceremony. Optional family and professional resume photos will be available at the President's Reception following the ceremony.

Video

The graduation ceremony will be available via  web stream approximately 10 days after the event.  Please see link www.gtc.edu/graduation.  If you would care to purchase a DVD of the graduation, the charge will be $23 including shipping and handling.  An order form will also be available at www.gtc.edu/graduation.

When will degrees/diplomas be distributed?

Only diploma covers are presented at the ceremony. Degrees/diplomas will be mailed 6-8 weeks after the end of the semester.

President's Reception

Please join your fellow graduates and guests at the President's reception at Main Place in the Wyllie Library Learning Center immediately following the ceremony.

UW-Parkside Policies

UW-Parkside has notified us that smoking and beverages are not allowed in the seating area. Vending machines in the halls are not operational during the ceremony. Please cooperate with this request and make your graduation ceremony a pleasant memory for all.

When is the graduation ceremony?

Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 4:00p.m.

How do I reserve my seat for graduation?

Seats can be reserved online at http://www.gtc.edu/webform/commencement-ceremony-attendance-confirmation or over the phone by calling Kim Bremer at (262)619-6832 or Ginger Chapman at (262)619-6836. Please note that seats in the ceremony must be reserved by April 18th. Seats cannot be guaranteed for students past this date.

Do my guests need tickets?

No, tickets will not be required for your guests. Guest seating will be in the bleachers or the seats behind the graduates.  You may invite as many guests as you wish.

Are formal AHS graduation announcements available?

No. Graduation announcements are not available through the bookstore.

Will there be an opportunity to have pictures taken?

A professional photographer will be taking a picture of each graduate. Information on purchasing these pictures will be available at the ceremony.

Will there be a reception to follow the ceremony?

Yes, at UW – Parkside – Main Place

PLEASE NOTE:

  1. UW - Parkside has notified us that smoking or beverages are not allowed in the convocation facility.  Please cooperate with this request and make your graduation ceremony a pleasant memory for all.
  2. To avoid possible confusion, you should be aware that Gateway's Associate Degree and Technical Diploma graduation ceremony takes place on the same day at 7:00 p.m.
  3. A diploma cover will be given at the ceremony, and actual diplomas will be mailed out 6-8 weeks after the end of the semester.
