Membership:
Due to the nature of the program and its limited length, the radiography club, GoRT membership is limited to students in their second year of the “526” core program classes. Each fall the students meet with the advisor and determine if they desire to participate as a club. Since the clubs inception in 2006, there has only been one year that students opted out of club activities.
Activities:
Students typically raise funds to participate in two events outlined below.
The first event is in late November or early December of each year. The event is a field trip to the RSNA, Radiologic Society of North America’s annual trade show and educational event, held at Mc Cormick Place in Chicago. The RSNA is a 6 day event for physicians, technologists’, physicists and radiology administrators to participate in continuing education and preview everything new in Imaging. The trip is one day and includes attendance at The Student Theatre. The Theatre is a one hour lecture provided by experts in the field and pertaining to radiologic technology.
The second event is a two day /two night student symposium held at the Kalahari resort, in the Wisconsin Dells. The symposium is sponsored by Wisconsin Radiologic educators and the WSRT and prepares students for their ARRT examination. Go RT students participate in the Quiz Bowl and have opportunities to compete with near 300 radiography students from across the state of Wisconsin in essay, exhibit and computer competitions for cash prizes. The students also take a proctored “Mock Registry” examination.
Professional organizations:
There are no student organizations in radiography, however the professional organizations that support the technologists do offer reduced membership rates to students enrolled in radiography programs.
