Gateway seeking vendors for its Celebrate Earth Day event

Gateway Technical College is seeking vendors for its April 22 Celebrate Earth Day event to be held on its Elkhorn Campus and its Kenosha Campus.

Vendor slots are free for those who fit the criteria of the event, to be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The college strongly encourages a booth that focuses on nature, the environment or sustainability practices and offers the following:

Melinda Myers keynotes Gateway’s annual WinterGreen conference

Well-known gardening expert, author and TV/radio host Melinda Myers will keynote Gateway Technical College’s 25th Annual WinterGreen conference, an event featuring experts offering advice and insight into the trends of the horticulture industry today. 

The conference will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 27 in the Madrigrano Auditorium, located in the Conference Center of Gateway’s Kenosha Campus, 3520-30th Ave. Industry experts and the public are welcome to attend.

Gateway holds opening for bee barn, a center for bee learning and exploration

Gateway Technical College opened its bee barn at the Joseph and Kathy Madrigrano-supported Center for Sustainable Living on its Kenosha Campus, a building which will be a focal point on the college’s effort to raise awareness of the dramatic expiration of millions of bees in the last decade.

Gateway to hold horticulture workshop on keeping your garden healthy

Gateway Technical College will offer the last workshop of its summer horticulture series, “Home Remedies for the Garden,” 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 9 at the college’s Pike Creek Horticulture Center on its Kenosha Campus, 3520-30th Ave.

Well-known Gateway Horticulture program instructor Kate Jerome will lead the workshop.

Celebrate Earth Day poster contest winners announced

Ceremony to be held at noon

Kenosha Unified School District’s Jadyn Dostal won Gateway Technical College’s 2016 Celebrate Earth Day poster contest. Azalea Salcedo took second, while Abe Villarreal took third.

Dostal and Villarreal attend Mahone Middle School while Salcedo attends Somers Elementary School. Honorable mention goes to Shelby Robinson of Washington Middle School.

Gateway to hold its traditional Communitywide Celebrate Earth Day

Gateway Technical College will once again celebrate the environment with its Celebrate Earth Day, featuring fun, hands-on activities for those of all ages to learn how to be stewards of the environment.

Celebrate Earth Day will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 23 on Gateway’s Kenosha Campus, 3520-30th Ave. The event will be preceded by a Pike Creek Cleanup on the campus from 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Gateway continues to expand annual Celebrate Earth Day

Elkhorn Campus to hold a number of activities

Gateway Technical College continues to broaden its popular communitywide Celebrate Earth Day event this year to include even more activities and ways community members can be gentle on the environment at work and home.

The event will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 23 at its Elkhorn Campus, 400 County Road H, featuring a number of earth-friendly activities, a gardener’s swap, informational booths, children’s crafts and wagon rides.

Gateway signs on to green climate pledge

Gateway Technical College President and CEO Bryan Albrecht today signed on to the American Campus Act on Climate Pledge to demonstrate the college’s support for strong climate action by world leaders.

A total of 218 colleges and universities representing 3.3 million students from 40 states are committed to taking action on climate by signing the national pledge and detailing how they would work to meet the pledge on their own campuses.
