The Service Learning Center is partnered with the Wisconsin Campus Compact for a number of conference, workshop, and regional networking opportunities.  As events spring up throughout the year, instructors are notified via email, but also on this page.

June 12 – 13, 2014 | Upper Midwest Civic Engagement Summit 

Gateway is proud to announce its participation in the UMCES this year! A team of instructors and staff will be leading an hour long workshop on how our Global Scholars students continue their Service Learning practices at home.

Service Learning Course Design Workshop

Started in August 2012, this workshop is open to 10 faculty each semester to learn step by step the best practices for integrating service learning into existing classes. Faculty interested in traveling abroad on a service learning global trip are required to complete this workshop.

The workshop covers the basics in integrating service learning into the syllabus, creating community partnerships, assessment and evaluation, creating rubrics for service learning, and reflection activities. Each participant with a 5-year certification will receive 1 credit towards recertification. Any adjunct participants are able to earn a $100 stipend following the conclusion of the workshop and implementation of a service learning aspect in their existing course work.

International Service Learning

Gateway has exciting new opportunities for leading International Service Learning programs.  Existing programs to Belize and Costa Rica/Nicaragua are open to students and instructors from specific fields.

Belize
As of April 2014: Nursing, IT, and Horticulture

 

Costa Rica/Nicaragua
As of April 2014: All Healthcare programs including Dental Assistants
