Greenhouse and Floral
The Wisconsin Green Industry is the term used to describe all the different parts that make up the horticulture profession in Wisconsin today. Landscape design, landscape contracting and grounds maintenance make up the largest segment of horticulture in Wisconsin. Greenhouse growers, garden centers, nurseries and florists also make a significant contribution to horticulture in Wisconsin. Certified arborists, lawn specialists and sod producers, estate and botanic garden managers are just a few more of the many industries that combined contribute more than $2.7 billion annually to Wisconsin’s economy while providing more than 43,000 jobs. Gateway Technical College offers an associate degree in horticulture with an option to specialize in one of two areas. The Landscape and Nursery option is for students desiring future employment in landscape design, landscape installation or grounds maintenance. The Greenhouse and Floral option is for students more interested in retail floral or garden center work, nursery and greenhouse production. For students not interested in pursuing a degree yet desire industry credibility, we offer certificates in specialty areas such as Grounds Maintenance, Garden Center Operations and Floral Design. A horticulture degree from Gateway Technical College can help you become part of this ‘growing’ industry that makes such a significant contribution to enhancing the natural beauty of Wisconsin.
