Gateway Technical College recognizes the need for its students to prepare for careers in the ever-changing global economy and has created international partnerships to give its students global learning opportunities. Gateway began by inviting international students to study at Gateway and is stepping up opportunities for Gateway students to study abroad.
Gateway formed a partnership with Kaufmännische Schulen in Hanau, Germany (KS-Hanau) during the 2002-03 school year, focusing on:
Since the formation of the partnership, students from KS-Hanau have visited Gateway annually and in 2007 the first group of Gateway students traveled to Hanau. Each year Gateway students now travel to Hanau and participate in hands-on project-based learning with KS-Hanau students. All Gateway study abroad opportunities are project based and involve partnerships with foreign educational institutions and businesses.
In addition to the amazing partnership with Kaufmännische Schulen, Gateway is always looking to expand and create international partnerships. One such relationship created an opportunity for Gateway instructors and leaders to travel to a Hong Kong technical community college to learn international teaching methods. Hong Kong instructors have also traveled to Gateway and are interested in modeling online teaching methods used at Gateway.
To become more connected with domestic and foreign educational institutions with a similar commitment to international education, Gateway has joined several organizations including the Wisconsin Technical College System's Standing Committee on International Education, the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs, and has participated in the "Meeting Global Education Challenges" conference.
Each year more students participate in our various study abroad opportunities gaining once-in-a-lifetime international experiences. As the global economy grows, Gateway continues to expand its international education opportunities.
