Gateway - A Pathway to Value

A Gateway Technical College education is not only an opportunity to prepare for any of over 65 careers guided by industry-experienced instructors, but is a terrific value as well.

Savvy parents can navigate a path that can, over time, build the following scenarios: their child graduating high school with college credits they didn’t have to pay for; an associate’s degree; a career in the field of their choice; and a four-year degree. Great value. Great education.

BEGIN EARLY
High School Articulation - For years Gateway Technical College and high schools in Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth Counties have partnered in the development of successful articulation agreements. These articulation agreements allow high school students to receive technical college credit for certain courses they take in high school and help to facilitate a seamless transition from secondary to postsecondary education.

Youth Options - High school juniors and seniors can participate in a state wide program called Youth Options and take Gateway courses that count jointly for high school and college credit. The local school district pays the tuition. Interested students should meet with a high school guidance counselor to learn about qualifications for participation. Enrollment deadlines are March 1 for the fall semester and October 1 for the spring semester. The enterprising student can leave high school with 18 FREE college credits at Gateway Technical College, jumpstarting the student’s work toward his or her associate degree.

AFFORDABLE TUITION
Gateway has managed to keep tuition rates for Wisconsin residents affordable – approximately half the per-credit cost of UW-System universities and about a quarter of most private colleges.

Scholarships - Numerous scholarships are available to Gateway students. Some are national in scope and some are available through parents’ employers (ask your company’s human resources department). Numerous scholarships are available each year for new and continuing Gateway students through the Gateway Technical College Foundation.

Financial Aid - Approximately 95% of Gateway students who apply for Financial Aid receive some sort of assistance. However, if your registration to college depends on receiving aid, you absolutely must apply for financial aid at least 8 weeks prior to the start of the semester. APPLY EARLY!!

Gateway uses the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility for federal grants, student and parent loans, work-study, and state grants. The student must first complete the FAFSA found at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The student and Gateway will receive a summary of the student’s FAFSA information. The financial aid award is determined from that information and is communicated through an award letter. Tuition deferred based on award.

Payment Options - Gateway offers students the opportunity to pay for their semester’s tuition on a payment plan requiring a down payment and two installment payments during the semester. Enrollment for the Student Payment Plan takes place on any campus at the registration cashier offices or online with WebAdvisor. The plan allows students to carry up to $2,000 of tuition on the Payment Plan. The plan agreement term is the current semester registered. A deposit equal to 40% of the total cost of tuition and fees, plus a $15 non-refundable processing fee is required at the time of enrollment in the Plan.

GRADUATE SATISFACTION
As parents, we worry about our kids’ ability to support themselves and sometimes it seems impossible that they can get a job that will pay back their costs of education. Gateway offers that possibility. Gateway offers reasonable tuition and Gateway grads get real skills that make them workplace ready. They are able to pay off student loans and often get a well-paying job involving tuition reimbursement if they want to continue towards a 4-year degree.

Gateway is committed to providing quality occupational training. Graduate satisfaction with Gateway training is extremely high. More than half of Gateway grads have jobs in their field of training within six months. Every fall Gateway surveys graduates from the previous school year to obtain information about employment status, salary, levels, job location, and satisfaction with training. View Graduate Follow-up Reports.

KEEP ON GOING
Starting at Gateway makes completing a bachelor’s degree affordable, accessible, and convenient. Gateway knows that you want choices and need flexibility. Credit transfer makes it easy for Gateway associate degree graduates to complete a bachelor’s degree. Gateway is connected with a number of postsecondary institutions such as Carthage College, Marquette University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, the UW-System, and a variety of others.
