Experienced Rider Course
Cost: $84.89* per student until 5/12/09 - a slight increase thereafter. Purpose: The purpose of this course is to refresh and fine-tune your basic motorcycle riding skills. In addition to sharpening your riding abilities, some insurance companies offer a discount for graduates and many riding clubs reimburse the participants' tuition. Schedule: 4/11/09 8:00 – 1:00 pm The 2-Up ERC offered on 5/23/09 is designed to improve the riding skills of both the rider and the passenger. The 2-Up ERC enhances the rider’s mental and physical skills while carrying a passenger. The passenger learns when and why the rider might take various evasive actions and how to work with the rider as a co-rider. The objective is for them to become a more effective team on the motorcycle. The rider performs the first round of each exercise solo and the rest of the exercise is conducted with a passenger. Both rider and passenger participate in the group discussions between exercises. The passenger and rider must both register and pay the same fee for the class. Prerequisite: A vaild driver's license with motorcycle endorsement (Class D/M) and a street legal motorcycle, of any size, which will need to pass a safety inspection, are required. Participants should have driven a minimum of 3,000 miles in a variety of environments, such as rural back roads, highways, urban and residential. It is not necessary to have completed a Basic Rider Course prior to taking this class. Course Content: This class consists of five hours of on-range instruction. During the course, there will be several discussion sessions which deal with the mental aspects of riding and nine on-motorcycle exercises which will practice skills such as stopping, cornering (both slow tight turns, "at speed" turns and multiple corners) and swerving. The class will end with a skills evaluation. Requirements: Participants are required to provide their own motorcycle for this course. Participants will also need to provide proof of insurance on the motorcycle, as well as the owner's explicit written permission to use the motorcycle in the ERC if the participant does not own the motorcycle. In addition, the participant will need to provide and use full protective gear while riding on the range: The class will run rain or shine - raingear is strongly recommended. Registration: Complete a registration form and present it with payment at any Gateway Registration Office - Elkhorn, Burlington, Racine or Kenosha. Registration must be done prior to the class start. Low enrollment will result in class cancellations.
Out-of-state tuition rates do apply to non-Wisconsin state residents.
