Diesel Technologies
Gateway Technical College is growing a diesel technology program to prepare the area’s work force for the growing number of high tech transportation careers. The college now offers diesel technology educational programming at the Horizon Center for Transportation Technology, 4940-88th Ave., Kenosha, with an advanced technical certificate, the Heavy Duty Vehicle Technician. While all students meeting the requirements have the opportunity to sign up for the diesel classes, only those who’ve graduated from Gateway’s Automotive Technician program can receive the certificate. It is a program that would appeal to those entering their career – to incumbent workers looking to receive training in the latest diesel technology methods and diagnostic tools. A program that’s growing Programming and opportunities for students and incumbent workers to receive training will continue to grow into a one-year technical diploma and two-year associate degree by Fall 2010. As a student, you will learn to meet the challenges of tomorrow’s technology at the Gateway’s Advanced Propulsion Training Facility, a new facility to give students in the new program the cutting edge equipment to develop the skills for their future career. Gateway has begun work on the 12,800-square-foot addition to the Horizon Center because of the high demand for skilled diesel technicians. In addition, the facility will have a “green” aspect to it to introduce students and incumbent workers to biofuels and other sustainable heavy-duty engine technologies, those currently used – and others as they are developing. Gateway students will have the opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge to address technological changes to all alternate-fueled transportation as well as the diagnostic equipment that goes along with them. The facility will also be the site for Snap-on diagnostics certification training for diesel engines such as over-the-road tractor trailers. Curriculum grounded by industry experts The curriculum and other plans for the diesel center are driven by an industry advisory committee comprised of representatives from diesel engine and truck dealerships, repair services, construction equipment providers, tool manufacturers, and transportation industry organizations. The goal of the program is to provide the industry with technicians with the highest level of technological savvy. Roger H. Kriete C.E.O. “I think having a diesel school at Gateway Technical College would be a tremendous asset to the state of Wisconsin – a shining star.”

“Time and money are lost whenever a piece of construction equipment goes down. We’re looking forward to having Gateway training qualified people right here in southeastern Wisconsin.”
